The Frank Welker Homepage by Doreen Mulman

Guardian UK Article
The Guardian UK has published a nice article about Frank entitled "Frank Welker: the most successful Hollywood actor you've never heard of." They raise the question "The voice artist's movies have grossed more than anyone else's since 1980. So why is he virtually unknown?" And they discuss the importance of voice in cartoons and movies. All in all, a brief, but enjoyable read. Check it out. :)

Raiders of the Lost Ark
It's well-known that Frank did vocal effects in Raiders. In this funny and unusual spoof, Frank does all the voices and sound effects for a classic scene from the film!

Transformers: Prime, Roberto Orci's and Alex Kurtzman's CG-animated series now airing on The Hub. In this Transformers: Prime promo video that was originally shown at BotCon2010 and SDCC2010, Peter Cullen and Frank discuss their roles... Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Frank has a supporting role as Mr. Whitacre in the Steven Soderbergh comedy/thriller The Informant! with Matt Damon and Scott Bakula, currently available on DVD. "I am sneaky and I do love a good surprise. Yes, I am playing Matt's father in The Informant! It's not that I won't do an on camera part now and then, it's just that I'm not too keen on auditioning. This was offered to me and how could I pass it up? It is a very small part, so don't blink..." -Frank Welker (4/8/2009)[Trailer]

A Surprise Gift from Frank!

The Incredible Mr. Don Knotts
I can attest to the validity of Frank's statement about him being "sneaky" and loving surprises. Out of the blue, a copy of The Incredible Don Knotts showed up at my house on 4/10/09. I was expecting a book from Scott Innes, so I didn't even open the package at first. When I did open it, I was very surprised to read the gift note: "Thought you might enjoy the interview in this great new book by Steve Cox. -F." Frank's on pages 108-9, 112-14, 118, 121, 157, 167 and 172. In words and pics!

Trivia: In which film do Scott Bakula, Don Knotts and Frank Welker all have roles? A: Warner Bros/Turner Feature Animation's Cats Don't Dance (1997). It features all three men's voices as Danny, T.W. (Tumble Weed) Turtle and Farley Wink, respectively. Rick Logan is T.W.'s singing voice.

Check out photos from the 9/28/2009 record of The Garfield Show, featuring Frank, June Foray, Stan Freberg, Gregg Berger, Laura Summer, Wally Wingert, Jason Marsden and Mark Evanier. Also, if you don't have it already, grab a copy of Garfield's FunFest, the second of three feature-length movies (08/05/2008).

"Mark Evanier is one of my favorite directors. Not only is he great with actors, he has more knowledge in his little pinkie than anybody in the business we call show. He is a smart man." -Frank Welker (8/24/2008)

Kath Soucie Discusses Her Heroes
Nancy Cartwright Chats with Kath Soucie

"Heroes? Frank Welker, Frank Welker and Frank Welker. He is hands down my most giant hero in the animation VO community. He is an amazingly gifted genius. He can create every sound that you might hear in a jungle: the drip of the raindrops, the wind rustling in the trees, and all of the inhabitants that you might encounter there. I love animals. I mean I love animals and Frank's great ability is that not only can he make the sounds of the animals; he can give them a true voice. I've done episodes of cartoons that had an environmental bent focusing on things like ivory poaching, global warming. He portrayed a mother elephant being torn from her baby by ivory poachers for her tusks. The mother's cry and the baby's anguish were all there in Frank's voice. Captain Planet did a show centering on puppy mills and what he did in that show... there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I've heard him do dozens of sensitive performances through the years and he always, always delivers something so special and unique and moving."
